Beginning in the Chamonix valley, this unparalleled walking tour makes a complete circuit of Mont Blanc and its satellite Alpine peaks. Walking first from France into Italy and then on to Switzerland, the trekkingroute follows picturesque Alpine valleys and ascends and descends steep mountain paths. Our walking route also leads us to climb a series of scenic and challenging Alpine passes, including the high point of the circuit at the rocky Fenetre d’Arpette (2670m). We use comfortable hotel accommodations throughout the tour and our vehicle backup means that group members need carry only a small daypack. Suitable for regular hill walkers looking for an Alpine trekking adventure around Mont Blanc, this tour provides an excellent introduction to long-distance trail walking in the Alps of Europe.

Day 1: Meet at Geneva Airport. Transfer to Argentiere in the Chamonix Valley. The guide will talk about the days ahead and check out your equipment. There’s a chance to stretch your legs and explore this small alpine village.

Day 2: Leaving Argentiere, we take the bus to Les Houches to catch the cable car to Bellevue and walk over the Col de Voza (1653m) to the Col de Tricot (2120m). We descend to the Chalet de Miage and continue on to Les Contamines where we spend the night.
Ascent: 834m
Descent: 1318m
Walking Time: 7 hours

Alternative Day 2: Follow the same route over the Col de Voza (1653m) but then descend to Les Contamines via Bionnassay. This walk passes through alpine villages but does not involve making the ascent over the Col de Tricot.
Ascent: 50m
Descent: 633m
Walking Time: 5 ½ hours

Day 3: We catch the bus to Notre-Dame de la Gorge saving a little time and effort. We then follow the valley to the refuge at Le Balme and from here we continue to the Col de Bonhomme (2469m). From there we traverse the Col de la Croix (2483m) before the descent to Les Chapieux.
Ascent: 1260m
Descent: 929m
Walking Time: 7 ½ hours

Day 4: After a short bus ride we set out for our objective, the Col de la Seigne (2513 m) on the Italian border, followed by an easy descent into Val Veni where we catch a bus to Courmayeur. We stay tonight in a hotel in Courmayeur.
Ascent: 727m
Descent: 876m
Walking Time: 5 ½ hours

Day 5: We climb to the Monte de la Saxe Ridge with views of Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses. It is possible to take a taxi ride to reduce the uphill walking. We follow the route along towards the Refugio Bonatti and then either descend to La Vachey and follow the valley, or cross the col Deux Sauts to reach Arnuva. From
here we catch a bus back to Courmayeur for a second night.
Ascent: 860m
Descent: 898m
Walking Time: 7 hours or 5 ½ hours if we use a taxi to start the day

Alternative Day 5:Rest day, explore the Val Ferret and Courmayeur.

Day 6: From Courmayeur we take a bus back up to the Val Ferret where we start the climb to the Col du Grand Ferret (2530m) for great views of the Grand Combin (4090m) and Mont Dolent (3823m). Entering Switzerland we descend to La Fouly.
Ascent: 895m
Descent: 1160m
Walking Time: 6 hours

Day 7: The easiest stage of the walk through this pastoral Swiss Valley. We pass through meadows and woodland and typical Swiss villages as we follow the valley to Champex, the ‘Chocolate Box Village’.
Ascent: 420m
Descent: 565m
Walking Time: 5 ½ hours

Day 8: A climb up to the Fenetre d’Arpette (2665m) pass. We enjoy spectacular views across the Trient Glacier before descending to the Col de Forclaz (1572m) where we check into our hotel.
Ascent: 1199m
Descent: 1139m
Walking Time: 7 ½ hours

Alternative Day 8: In bad weather or to avoid the climb to the Fenetre d’Arpette it is possible to walk via the Alp Bovine to reach the Col de la Forclaz.
Ascent: 742m
Descent: 682m
Walking Time: 6 hours

Day 9: We climb up through fine woodland to reach the Col de Balme. We cross the border back into France and descend from the Col de Balme to Argentiere. To ease tired legs we use the cable car to descend back down to Le Tour where we can catch the bus back to Argentiere.
Ascent: 1069m
Descent: 400m
Walking Time: 5 hours

Day 10: We catch a bus to the Col des Montets and walk towards the cliffs of Le Chesery and Lac Blanc, arguably the Chamonix valley’s best viewpoint, followed by a descent to La Flegere where we catch the cable car down to Les Praz and then a
bus back to Argentiere.
Ascent: 733m
Descent: 257m
Walking Time: 5 ½ hours

Day 11: Return by bus to Les Praz and then catch the cable car to La Flegere where we follow the fantastic path to the Col de Brevent and finally to the summit of Le Brevent. From here we descend to Chamonix using the cable car, and transfer back to our accommodation in Argentiere.
Ascent: 651m
Descent: 78m
Walking Time: 5 hours.

Day 12: After breakfast there may be time to explore Chamonix before the transfer to Geneva Airport.
