Don’t take our word for how wonderful our trips are. We’ll be delighted to provide you with references of others who have rambled with us. They would be delighted to share with you their experiences with us. Just ask.

"I want to sincerely thank everyone at English Lakeland Ramblers for helping to plan and execute the perfect rambling adventure.  My mother and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our exhilarating two weeks in the Highlands/Islands and Lake District (thanks to the charming and professional guidance of Janet and Tom)."

A Sells     San Antonio, TX

"What a wonderful time my husband and I had on the walking tour of the Lake District!!!   The 2 hotels you use were excellent, as where their meals and packed lunches.  And our main guide Janet Niepokojczycka was really such a good speaker and so knowledgable about the history of this area and of Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth.   Ann Strange, our leader on the difficult hikes, was also very good and tons of fun.  Both guides made the walking trips extremely enjoyable."

N Ogg     Los Angeles, CA

"I returned last Sunday from the Inn to Inn Walk in the Lake District of England. I just wanted you to know what a fabulous week it was.  The tour was everything I had hoped it would be and more.  It exceeded my expectations.  The countryside was indescribable!!!  My pictures don't do it justice.  Our guide Janet, couldn't have been more knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and competent. Our driver Ann, was also wonderful. I was traveling with my sister, and our three other companions on the tour were very compatible; it made for great conversations and wonderful new friendships."

Jo Jones      Moraga, CA

“The trip exceeded our expectations. We were afraid we’d be disappointed because the three previous trips with ELR were so great — but this one was just as wonderful in a different way.”
K & G Lovejoy     Colebrook, CT

“Can’t say enough about the guides. Very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. Best tour guides I’ve ever met.”
V Richard     Tulsa, OK

“I'm so glad I heard about ELR and thoroughly enjoyed the week. For a 'non-walker' I was thrilled to have accomplished as much as I did.”
T Ward    Leesburg, VA

“Our guide was incredible — his knkowledge, encouragement, and sensitivity to our needs. A true gentleman.”
S Baron     Walnut Creek, CA

“The sightseeing was interesting, relevant and well-integrated with the hill walking. The Highlands are awe-inspiring and the ELR tour was perfectly designed to take advantage, in an intimate way, of that singular spot on the planet.
B Hebert & J Kerstein     Montclair, NJ

“My third trip with ELR. They just keep getting better and better. I’ve traveled to many different countries and this trip ranks as one of the best. Spectacular! I’ve been recommending you to all my friends and colleagues.”
G Allen & J Ambrozaitis     Waterbury, CT

“Absolutely loved the trip and it exceeded my expectations.
M Purvis     Washington, DC

“The people on the trip were simply fabulous. I rather expected people who wanted to take this kind of trip to be compatible. It was a remarkable group of caring, interesting, congenial people and we thoroughly enjoyed them all.
K Mussell & B Weintraub     Washington, DC

“The ELR tour was everything we hoped for. I would love to go back again.
S & C Morris     Miami, FL

“Thanks for a wonderful experience! Our guide's knowledge made all the difference. ”
G Schmidt     Normal, IL

“For the Cotswolds — an area steeped in history — one needs a guide who is steeped in the knowledge of it. Ours met this criterion to the max.
J & C Tate     Malvern, PA

“The walks were a good mix of gentle and challenging. Spectacular countryside and fascinating villages. The meals were delicious. I enjoyed all the inns! The whole trip, down to the smallest detail, was admirably organized.
V Macy     Somerville, MA

“Meals at our hotel were superb, outstanding. Pub lunches were excellent. Our guide’s leadership was a high point of the trip — his knowledge of the region (topography, history, social and cultural characteristics), his overall concern for the group, his keen insight and well-developed sense of humor were magnificent.
D Swoap     Clearwater, FL

“The walks and hikes were wonderful! From the lovely, craggy hills to the villages! When you work indoors at a desk job all day, it’s breathtaking (sometimes literally!).
V Richard     Tulsa, OK

“The sightseeing was great. I saw more than I expected — ruins, churches, authors’ homes and gardens, a castle, and scenery! Meals were excellent. Always varied so that a good choice was possible. Surprisingly sophisticated cuisine for the remote locations we visited.
J Schrotz     Philadelphia, PA

“The lodging was first-class. I enjoyed swimming at the first two hotels.
P Kennedy     Whittier, CA

“This was our second tour with English Lakeland Ramblers. It met, and exceeded, our expectations.”
R & M Rutter     IL

“The walks and hikes were, as usual, just the right length and level of exercise. The guides and personal service were excellent! Superb! Knowledgeable, friendly and caring.”
B Overcash     NC

William Wordsworth, regrettably not one of our customers, had much to say about the Lake District, including this, in 1810:

“I do not know any tract of country in which, in so narrow a compass, may be found an equal variety in the influences of light and shadow upon the sublime and beautiful features of the landscape.”

And much earlier, in 1582, William Camden wrote the following:

“The country...seemeth as rough by reason of hilles, yet for the variety thereof it smileth upon the beholders and giveth contentment to as many as travaile it... You come to pretty hilles...well replenished with flockes of sheep, beneath which againe you meet with goodly plaines spreading out a great way.”
