The tour starts in the small medieval coastal town of Newport in the Pembrokeshire National Park.   The Welsh name, Trefdraeth, can be translated to 'town by the beach' - a long, golden stretch of sand protected by craggy headlands.  Our walks will take you along the world famous Pembrokeshire Coast path.

We then move inland to another historic town – Crickhowell, enjoy the majestic Black Mountains, explore the glorious Wye Valley, immortalized by the poet William Wordsworth.

Day 1

Arrival in Newport, a small medieval town on the slopes of Carn Ingli mountain in the northern part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.  Take a stroll around the ancient streets and pathways that lead directly to the river Nevern Estuary that is teeming with wildlife.  In the late afternoon meet the rest of the group and your guide before dinner.  Overnight Golden Lion Inn. (D)

Day 2

Walk through the old port of Newport – Parrog – to Dinas Head – passing idyllic little coves and beaches to the ruined old church of St Brynach, destroyed by coastal erosion but once large enough to hold a congregation of 300.  This area, sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds, allows shrubs and trees of almost Mediterranean luxuriance to grow here.   Return to Newport for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)

Day 3

Fishguard to Trefin around Stumble Head, a glorious wild stretch of coast and very popular with birdwatchers.  The trail follows a beautiful stretch of coast dotted with picturesque coves often frequented by seals. (B, L, D)

Day 4

The last walk along the coast path will be to the smallest city in Britain – St. Davids, named after the Welsh patron saint,  with its magnificent cathedral adjacent to the beautiful ruins of the Bishops Palace.

(B, L, D)

Day 5

Leave St. David's for Crickhowell, a thriving market town beautifully located in arguably the most beautiful valley in the National Park between the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons.  We will stop at the Botanical Gardens of Wales en-route. (B, L, D)

Day 6

Today we enjoy the woodlands and footpaths of the Wye Valley, overlooking the Royal Forest of Dean and including views of Tintern Abbey, made famous by William Wordsworth, with glorious views and a great sense of Welsh history. (B, L, D)

Day 7

Our final walk will take us to the World Heritage Site of Blaernavon and the Big Pit – The National Coal Museum of Wales, a fascinating walk through the industrial heritage of Wales. (B, L, D)

Day 8

Departure after breakfast. (B)
